I suppose I should tell you something about who I am and why I do the things I do.
WHO I AM:
I am J. Variable X/0. My name is a mathematical equation that drives mathematicians and computers crazy because essentially it means that whatever X is, when you divide it by zero, you come up with infinity. I like that.
I was a teenager in the 80s, when classic rock was still pretty new, and I had all the accompanying nuclear angst and goth and punk and hair metal and Satan stuff. I still like all that too, but I like many other things now as well.
THE THINGS I DO:
First, I play a LOT of Dungeons & Dragons. I started in 1986 and just never stopped. When I’m the DM (which is almost always–you DMs out there know how that goes), I run homebrew games (like, years-long campaigns) for 1st and 2nd edition with a lot of house rules. I’ve played a little 5th edition, and that’s fun, but I’ll always prefer the oldschool style.
I love conversations about philosophy, theology, psychology, theoretical math and physics, art, literature, metaphysics, history, and whacko conspiracy theories. That doesn’t mean that I’m an expert in any of these things, but I do like to learn about them.
I’m also an artist. And a writer. And I like to fiddle with websites. Please don’t ask me to design your poster or ghost-write your novel or build a site for you, though. I’ve learned that the minute I try to be creative according to someone else’s specifications, it stops being interesting…and I usually don’t get paid enough. (Cooking is fun, too. If you’re very nice to me, I might make you dinner for free.)
I just want to do my own work in my own way and if people like it enough to buy something I’ve made, that would be awesome.
WHY DO I DO THESE THINGS?
I have to. My brain is full of ideas and visions of other worlds and all the stories that happen there. If they don’t come out, I get sick.
